The Global Lifting Group held it’s last conference for 2013 in Sydney on November 20th and 21st. The venue was the Radisson Hotel on Liverpool St, in the centre of bustling Chinatown. The venue is very well appointed, including our conference room which was ideal for the size of our group. The meals, facilities and location were superb, as well as the friendly staff who catered to our every need.

Approximately half of the members arrived on Tuesday and we enjoyed a few drinks followed by a Chinese meal. An early night was preferred so we were all bright and attentive for the start of the conference on Wednesday morning. Unfortunately some members took a different approach, no names mentioned!

This conference saw a very strong attendance, with 23 members present during either both, or just one of the days. Members flew from Launceston, Perth, Townsville, Brisbane and Melbourne. NSW members from Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong made their way by car. We also had supplier presentations from Donaghy’s, PWB Anchor and Renfroe Clamps. All were well presented, relevant and appreciated by the group. Presentations were also made by our members HES (Oz Blok) and AMG.

Wednesday evening was our conference dinner, held at Ripples at Chowder Bay. Greg Jones organised a water taxi that collected us at Darling Harbour, cruised across Sydney Harbour and dropped us at the restaurant door located on the north shore near Mosman. Sydney turned on a beautiful night and the meal was first rate. The water taxi dropped us back at Circular Quay where we found ourselves in a quaint dockside pub for a few nightcaps. A few members decided that an early night was not required, again, no names mentioned!

All members agreed that our conference was excellent and a great deal of goodwill generated between both new and established members. We set the date for our next conference in April 2014 in Melbourne. Judging by the enthusiasm among the members, we expect this to be well attended also.
